pharmacy survey and re-registration project was inaugurated

The practical implementation of the national project for surveying and re-registration of pharmacies was inaugurated yesterday, Wednesday, dated 10th of Rajab 1447 AH, during a special ceremony attended by the Honorable Al-Haj Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, Minister of Public Health of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan; the Honorable Al-Haj Mawlawi Hamdullah Zahed, Deputy Minister for Food and Medicine; respected heads of various departments of the Deputy Ministry, guests from relevant institutions, and the recruited team leaders for all provinces of the country. The ceremony was held in the general hall of the Deputy Ministry for Food and Medicine.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Honorable Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali congratulated the inauguration of this major and vital project to the Deputy Ministry for Food and Medicine and to the entire devout nation, describing it as a national, reformative, and structural initiative aimed at promoting public health, strengthening the pharmaceutical supply system, and ensuring citizens’ access to safe, effective, and high-quality medicines. He added that the nation has suffered for many years from substandard medicines and non-standard service delivery, and that, God willing, with the implementation of this project, these two major problems will come to an end.
Referring to the importance of food safety and the effectiveness and quality of medicines for community health, Mr. Noor Jalal Jalali emphasized that all importing companies and manufacturing factories must import, produce, and supply to the market only those medicines and products that meet adequate standards of safety, quality, and effectiveness.

Subsequently, the Honorable Mawlawi Hamdullah Zahed, Deputy Minister for Food and Medicine, also described the inauguration of this major national project as a significant achievement and congratulated this positive development to the country’s mujahid and long-suffering nation. He explained the main objectives of the project to the participants and, while referring to the challenges and problems facing the food and medicine regulatory system, stated that in the past, mafia circles deliberately created disorder in the pharmaceutical regulatory system, as a result of which the country’s pharmaceutical market turned into a warehouse of substandard and smuggled medicines, and practically poison was sold to the people under the name of medicine.
Mr. Hamdullah Zahed added that with the implementation of this project, all pharmacies, wholesale drug outlets, and traditional medicine pharmacies across all provinces, districts, villages, and towns will be surveyed and registered. He considered supporting this process a duty and responsibility of every Afghan, and in conclusion prayed to Almighty Allah for success so that this project may be completed with full success.

At the end of the ceremony, Honorable Hasibullah Haddad, Head of the National Pharmacy Survey and Re-registration Project, and Mohammad Rostam Mohammadi, Director of Information Technology of the Deputy Ministry for Food and Medicine, each in turn provided information to the participants regarding the introduction of the project and its technical system.

It is worth mentioning that the aforementioned project has a total cost of 60 million and 800 thousand Afghanis and will be implemented over the next six months. As a result, all pharmacies across the country will be surveyed, licensed pharmacies will be re-registered electronically, unlicensed pharmacies will be identified, and new pharmacies will be distributed in all required areas based on population needs.
